Garner Lee Jones, of Fort Smith, Arkansas, born October
5, 1947 passed away quietly December 29, 2009. The second son of
Fred Lee and Hazel Marie Adams Jones, he was preceded in death by
them, as well as by his big brother, Fred G. Jones, half sister,
Frankie Marie Kuykendall, his grandparents, Charles and Nora Jones,
and Luther and Minnie Ethel Squires Adams, and his “best friend”
Midnight. He is survived by his sister-in-law Shirley Jones and two
aunts, Floy Lee and Katie Jones.
Garner attended North Side High School, where his spotty
grades belied his brilliant mind. Devilishly handsome, he was both a
lover and a fighter. He was married three times to two women.
He is survived by wife #1, Zella von Segen, and their daughter,
Sharolyn Jones-Taylor, and her husband David Taylor, of North Little
Rock. He is preceded in death by wife #2 and #3 and long term
companion, Marilyn Jo Roland. They have two daughters, Keri Dawn
Jones of Boston, Massachusetts, and Michael Denise Jones Paul and
her husband Brian Paul of Greenwood. He is also survived by his
“grandbabies,” Christian Jones, Lane Paul, Bailey Paul, Coltrane
Taylor, and Dakota Jones. He will be joining Scotty Lee Jones and
Spot Top Jones at the Rainbow Bridge.
Garner was a much-loved Cub Scout leader of Pack 54 and
a beloved brother in Phi Lambda Epsilon fraternity. He was
secretary and executive committee member of IBEW and secretary of
the Arkansas Wildlife Federation. He was co-founder and secretary of
Save Our Streams, a grassroots conservation organization that was
instrumental in having his beloved Crooked Creek placed on the list
of America’s Threatened Rivers. He was a member of Theta Kappa at
NHS and of Who’s Who of America’s Junior Colleges at Westark.
Services will be held at Edward’s Funeral Home in Fort
Smith, at 10:00 Monday, January 4, 2010. Visitation is Sunday,
January 3, from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. at Edwards Funeral Home. Pastor

Roselawn Cemetery. Immediately following interment, we will come

there are many.
